but we had a few drops of rain last night - maybe 10 or 12. The wind picked up too, so as of this morning and today, you could actually see the mountains again.
I took the opportunity of clearer skies to hike with the dogs up to our neighbor's cabin. Like Downing Mtn. Lodge, the fire got very close - 5 or 6 feet - or as close as you want to get! The bottom of the canyon where the N. Fork of Owings Creek runs, flowing downhill west to east on the north side of their cabin, looked untouched at the point where their driveway crosses, but both the canyon sides did get burned.
My next writing needs to be to the paper for a very big thank you to all the fire fighting agencies that worked their butts off to save all the structures on the mountain.
