A couple of cold but sunny days, before the rest of the week gets warmer and rainy. I took the dogs for a walk yesterday over the frozen ground. Looking closely at different places in the game trail, the freeze-dried mud looked like crumbled hamburger coated with ice crystals. Going across the steeper slopes, the hard ground made the going less easy.
I headed over to the seasonal stream on the North side of the 10 acres and going down into the draw heard noises I thought were the dogs moving next to me in the brush. At the bottom I looked down expecting to see a dry stream bed, but instead saw running water, and the source of the sounds. The stream was only running in that short section; nothing above, but I can't recall seeing it with water this time of the year before.
