The Hissing of Winter Ice

The dogs love to stop at the little park by the Bitterroot river and the high school football field. Every bush and tree is inspected for messages old and new from the other dogs that have been there.

It was cold enough earlier in the week that there were thin slabs of ice moving along the current of the river. As the pieces slid over the water and brushed along each other, there was a soft hissing sound. Unless it's huge waves crashing on the beach, the sounds of moving water are soothing.

Next week we're told we'll be getting snow - perhaps enough to notice! Snow now is drinking and fire fighting water later.....
